Homes for Sale in Morningside, Pittsburgh - Morningside is in Pittsburgh’s East End area and effortlessly reflects the charm of a small town. It is a narrow residential area with a small business district surrounded by the Allegheny River to the north, Highland Park to the east, and Stanton Heights to the west. Morningside is just less than two square miles and characterized by the tree-lined streets and two-story brick homes with large porches. In this area, most neighbors know one another and the community focuses on remaining close knit.

This quiet residential community used to be a dairy and vegetable farm community until 1905 when the Chislett Street trolley line was extended into the neighborhood and it transformed into a tight-knit Italian community. Within years, the farms were sold to residential developers and by the 1930's the Morningside area experienced constant construction to develop over 600 homes, ultimately turning into the manicured hometown that it still resembles today.

The small neighborhood is the perfect atmosphere for a young family. Most homes are family dwellings, and architecture styles in Morningside range from row houses to American foursquare homes to bungalows. Morningside's parks and recreation areas are lively and well kept. There are multiple playgrounds in the neighborhood, the area is within walking distance of the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium, and there are multiple unique annual community events. Heth’s Park is on the south side of Morningside and has three softball fields, a tennis court, hockey court, and playground. The other city park in the neighborhood is the Joe Natoli Field. Located behind Morningside’s business district, the field has area for football, baseball, and basketball teams to play here under lights as well as area for the Morningside Senior Community Center and a playground.

Morningside’s Italian heritage is very prevalent still to this day. The neighborhood is home to Pittsburgh’s only public Bocce courts called the John L. DelSignore Morningside Bocce Courts. Make sure to check out the annual St. Raphael Parish Festival each August. During the festival, there is an Italian mass, live music, dancing, and fireworks. The neighborhood is mostly known for its residential community, but also has a quaint business district located in the north end. The district is home to medical offices, markets, hair salons, pharmacies, and even an Italian Social Club. There are also two places of worship in the neighborhood, St. Raphael Parish and Messiah Lutheran Church. If you plan on moving to the area with your family, there are many educational opportunities for your children in or near Morningside since it is apart of the Pittsburgh Public School District. Living in Morningside gives you the comfort of a small knit community with easy accessibility to all of the great attractions Pittsburgh has to offer. The neighborhood is only a short driving distance to the Waterworks Mall and the rejuvenated shopping area in East Liberty. Parking in Morningside is fairly easy to come by on the street and does not require a parking permit. Public transportation in the area is also available via the Pittsburgh Port Authority buses.

Morningside residents refer to their neighborhood as one of the best-kept secrets in Pittsburgh. Take a walk through the streets of this peaceful community and you will surely feel at home – you might even meet some potential neighbors hanging out on their porches.
