Homes for Sale in Stanton Heights, Pittsburgh - Stanton Heights is a quiet neighborhood in northeastern Pittsburgh. The neighborhood is located in the East End and is completely residential with mostly single homes, but also duplexes. Most residents of Stanton Heights own their homes and prioritize keeping their houses well maintained.
The neighborhood and main street Stanton Avenue were named after Edwin Stanton. In the mid-1800s, Stanton lived in Pittsburgh and was a war secretary under President Abraham Lincoln. Stanton Heights was formerly known as the Stanton Heights Golf Course and was Pittsburgh’s largest private golf course. It opened in 1909. People who lived here during this time mostly golfed and farmed.
However, during World War II, the Golf Club’s members began to diminish and it finally closed in1950. The land was sold to multiple developers who built homes as well as the Pittsburgh Fire Station Number 7 at Stanton Avenue and Hawthorne Street.
Although there is no business district in Stanton Heights, its location puts you just minutes away from Pittsburgh’s greatest attractions and amenities. Also, the lack of a business district means that Stanton Heights is a quiet suburb and low-traffic neighborhood. Most of the homes in Stanton Heights were constructed in the 1950's and 1960's and are two-level simple brick homes.
Lawrenceville, Morningside, East Liberty, and Garfield surround the neighborhood. Lawrenceville’s bustling Butler Street is comprised of art galleries, hipster coffee shops, and a number of various other stores and restaurants. East Liberty’s neighborhood is going through a renaissance and there are big name stores such as: Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods Market, and Target. Thepublic park Highland Park is next to Morningside and offers picnic areas, a swimming pool, volleyball courts, tennis courts, trails, and playgrounds. The Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium also located within the park.
Sunnyside Elementary School is located in Stanton Heights. The original school was built in 1907, but was re-built in 1952. This quiet neighborhood still manages to get together to develop and improve the quality of life for its residents. The Stanton Heights Neighborhood Association is a membership-based association comprised of the residents of Stanton Heights. As a member you receive voting privileges at meetings and can attend the organization’s yearly events. Some of the events include monthly happy hours, Earth Day Neighborhood Clean Up, and the Stanton Heights Community Festival. The festival has become a yearly event and includes food trucks, face painting, and raffles.
Stanton Heights is the ideal location for a family looking to settle down in a quiet suburban area, but remain close to Pittsburgh’s busier neighborhoods.
